I need the help of all pool players to keep from loosing a steak dinner to a co-worker.?

Where did the origanal game of pool start from before it became popular in the United States. I have an idea where it started from but not sure. Got to know answer by Friday or loose a steak dinner. Please don't say wikipedia.com because that doesn't tell me what I am looking for. There are at least 6 countrys that claim to have started the game from what I have been told. But I think they are guessing at the countrys.

1. The Billiards Congress of America says it goes all the way back to the 1500s area.
2. well I believe there are two different types of pool. "snooker" (or the kind that we in the states play), I believe originated in England. Billiards I also think came from England. Check me up on that though, I remember hearing that from somewhere.
