What is a the proper amount to tip at a Japanese steak house?

The kind where they cook at your table and do all sorts of fancy tricks. It seems like you'd tip more than 15% since they are the chef and the server. But on the other hand, meals are nearly twice as much because of the entertainment/skill.

  1. 20%
  2. I would tip about 25% if they were good at what they do. The menu price does not mean they are getting paid better than a regular server. I don't know how much they make but it can't be more than a few bucks above minimum. They do get tips so they can't get paid that much.
  3. hi, well the kind of place u refer to is a "teppan" place, here in california theres lots.. i tip on quality of the chefs show, quality of food, and the server doing us right! if bad 12 percent if good 17 per,,if great,,,well over 20%, realize also tip what u can afford!
  4. I WOULD NOT TIP MORE THAN 20%.
  5. I give a Chicago-style hot dog– as served in the U.S. city of Chicago, Illinois and its surrounding suburbs– is a steamed or boiled all-beef, natural-casing hot dog on a poppy seed bun. The hot dog is topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt; but not ketchup
  6. I alway tip 20% of the bill.
  7. My advice is thinks about the service you received from the server, then analyze how good the food taste and rate the chefs entertainment skill, since you took the time to go out to a place that cost a little more than average I guess you are ready to tip a little more than average so if you usually tip from 15% to 25% you should be ready to tip from 18% to 33% total tip out, now that you made the math and that's at minimum, divide the tip into two parts one part slightly bigger than the other get the bigger part of the tip to the server and the slightly smaller part of the tip to the chef because the chef gets tipped out by server at the end of the shift, I worked at a sushi restaurant in my 5th year that's how i know, hope I was helpfull
  8. at least 20%
  9. regardless of how much the food markup is you should always tip 20 percent for good service and above 20 for stellar service
